AQUACOSM External Metadata Access[edit]

The AQUACOSM metadata services are provided by GeoNetwork (https://geonetwork-opensource.org). There are a number of ways to access AQUACOSM metadata from the GeoNetwork server, allowing external applications to retrieve and display the data for any purpose.

The recommended ways for accessing this data are using the Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW) or if you are importing the records into another instance of GeoNetwork, you can use the harvesting tools from your own version of GeoNetwork.

Catalogue Service for the Web (CSW)[edit]

The CSW end-point exposes the AQUACOSM metadata records in XML format using the OGC CSW protocol (version 2.0.2).

Two protocols are available:

  • CSW: Provides the ability to search and publish metadata for data, services and related information.
  • CSW-T: Provides an interface for creating, modifying and deleting catalogue records via the CSW protocol.

The following URL is the standard endpoint for the AQUACOSM catalogue:

https://www.aquacosm.eu/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw?

Generally, the VERSION and SERVICE parameter are also added, along with the REQUEST parameter as detailed below:

https://www.aquacosm.eu/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw?SERVICE=CSW&VERSION=2.0.2&REQUEST=GetCapabilities

Harvesting CSW services[edit]

The harvester in your own instance of GeoNetwork can connect to the remote AQUACOSM CSW server at the CSW url above and retrieve metadata records that match the query parameters specified.

To add your own GeoNetwork harvester, select ‘Harvesting’ from the admin menu and click the button to add a new harvester.

Make sure the source of the harvester is set to CSW, and use the following URL to connect:

https://www.aquacosm.eu/geonetwork/srv/eng/csw

You can add several search criteria. You can query only the fields recognised by the CSW protocol.

When creating the harvester, you can set a schedule for the process to run or alternatively, you can manually run the harvester as and when required.

It is beneficial to us to know where else our metadata is being presented. We therefore ask that you let us know by sending us a message at: https://www.aquacosm.eu/contact/
